BEFORE THE SESSION
I ask that you bring several outfits with you to the session, as I normally shoot different looks for the Standard Headshot Session. Since we are doing headshots, you only need to bring tops. The selection is up to you; however, normally solid colors work best and nothing with very busy patterns or logos. Also, having a variety of styles is recommended, depending on what you are looking for. For example, bringing only tank tops is not recommended.
If you are always seen with your glasses, you must have your headshots done using them. They are part of your personality. Bring all your pairs. Be sure to clean them!
PLEASE AVOID; however, If you insist, keep it simple. Small/discrete earings should do it. Remember that's a HEADSHOT. You don't want distracting objects taking the attention out of your face/expression on the photograph.
Hair & Makeup
I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you hire a PROFESSIONAL to do your make-up. While there is an extra cost associated with this service, hiring a professional make-up artist will not only enhance your experience, but also allow you to concentrate on your shoot. Make-up for photo sessions differs from everyday make-up. Professional make-up artists have the proper products and the technical knowledge to bring out the best in you. I work with a couple of great make-up artists, who I can recommend - just pick the option with make-up artist during the booking process and you will be all set.
If you feel you can do your own hair and make-up, please KEEP IT NATURAL. Less is more in the case of headshot photography. Remember, it is easier to apply more make-up than it is to take it off.
Style your hair as if you are going for an audition or a business meeting. For women with long hair, I like to shoot different looks, both with the hair down and up in a ponytail or bun, so please bring a hair elastic to the shoot.
There is NO MAKE-UP required for men. Just exfoliate and moisturize the day of the shoot.
Concerning hair, if possible, do not get your hair cut right before the shoot, but try to schedule your shoot about half-way between cuts. It will photograph better.
If you want some pictures with “scruff” come in with it and we will start shooting until we have the look covered. But bring your shaving kit with you, so that we can also get some “clean” looks. Ideally, unless facial hair is part of your normal look, you should come in clean-shaven.
Both women and men should moisturize their lips. Dry chapped lips cannot be retouched well. Start moisturizing a few days before your photo session.
